Why add the 1987 1/10 oz Gold American Eagle $5 NGC MS70 to your collection?

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) authenticated and graded this 1987 - 1/10 oz. Gold American Eagle at the perfect score of Mint State 70 (MS70). It contains 1/10 oz. of gold bullion and was struck on a planchet composed of 91.67% gold, 3% silver, 5.33% copper. It was introduced by the U.S. Mint as a vehicle for private gold ownership in 1986. At that time the only government-issued competition was the Canadian Gold Maple and the Gold Krugerrand. NGC census records show only 499 examples in this grade from a 580,266 mintage.

Brilliant Designs for Every Collection

The obverse features the Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Liberty striding forward, backlit with the rays of the Sun at dawn. She carries the torch of Freedom in her right hand and the olive branch of Peace in her left. The reverse was designed by U.S. Mint sculptor-engraver Miley Busiek and features the Bald Eagle in flight over his nest.
