Two Masterful Designs
From the turn of the century the US Mint repurposed the Beaux-Arts masterpiece from artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens that originally graced the circulating $20 "Double Eagle." The obverse image features Lady Liberty boldly striding forward, illuminating America with the Torch of Enlightenment and the olive branch of peace. She is backlit by the dawning of the sun, which represents the youthful optimism of a vibrant nation. The reverse of the coin features nesting bald eagles. Overhead, the male bald eagle is coming in for a landing with his wings on a powerful down stroke. The image was designed by the US Mint's Miley Busiek.
Original Mint Packaging
The original mint packaging includes a plastic holder for the coin, a certificate of authenticity and the original display box.
