1986-S Proof Silver Eagle1986 was the first year of production for the Silver Eagle. This is the first proof issue of the Silver Eagle and it was struck in San Francisco. Like other older Silver Eagle proofs, this coin is in demand because of its age and the current popularity of the series. This is an opportunity to add a true first to your collection. PCGS Proof 69 Deep Cameo 1986-S Silver EagleThis 1986 proof Silver Eagle was graded by PCGS. PCGS uses a 70 point grading scale and this coin received the grade of Proof 69, the second highest grade available. The grade of PR69 offers a nice compromise between value, quality, and affordability. This coin also received the DCAM, or Deep Cameo designation. One look at this Silver Eagle will show you why. Notice the difference between the bright nearly white color of Liberty and the dark look of the mirror-like background. This incredible contrast is why this coin received the DCAM designation. Proof Silver Eagle DesignThe reverse of this coin displays an original design created specifically for the Silver Eagle by John Mercanti. This design shows a bald eagle with its wings spread prominently while it holds a bundle of arrows and an olive branch with its talons. There are 13 stars above the eagle’s head which are arranged in a triangular pattern. The inscription at the top reads “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.” The other inscriptions on this side are “1 OZ. FINE SILVER” and “ONE DOLLAR.” The front of the coin depicts Liberty walking across the horizon carrying a bundle of branches. The sun is shining brightly in the background and she has her other arm extended. The inscriptions here are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1986.” This PCGS PR69 DCAM 1986 S proof Silver Eagle is a great choice to add to your collection, whether you’ve been collecting Silver Eagles or are just starting out. |
