This gorgeous gold proof coin issued by the Republic of Egypt is part of a series released from 1983-1992 to commemorate several of the most significant people, places and antiquities in the country's history. Released in 1986, design of this coin honors King Tutankhamen, the famed 18th dynasty Egyptian pharaoh known as the "Boy King," who ruled the New Kingdom from 1332-1323 BC. At the time of issue, the proof's 100 pound face value was the highest denomination coin in Egyptian history. Mintage is reported to be 7,500 coins.
