Why order this Mint State 69 1/10 oz. Gold 1986 American Eagle?

This 1986 American 1/10 oz. Gold Eagle comes from the first year of issue of this extremely popular series. It was struck from .9167 fine gold at the Philadelphia Mint and is one of only 915,609 of its kind. Although that was the highest mintage until 1998, Mint State 70 examples are relatively rare, with only about 6% of those submitted to NGC receiving that grade.

Iconic Saint-Gaudens Design

Augustus Saint-Gaudens lends his name to the obverse design, which he originally created for the double eagle. Liberty, the allegorical figure who has long represented America on coinage, stands at the center facing the holder. In front of her, she holds her torch of freedom, a symbol recognized throughout the world, while to her side she holds an olive branch, which represents peace. Her image is set against the backdrop of the rays of the morning sun, which is just beginning to emerge from beyond the horizon. Along the rim are fifty stars that represent the states, four more than appeared on the original Saint-Gaudens design.

Miley Busiek's reverse design was created specifically for this coin. It features a male eagle bringing an olive branch back to its nest, where its family awaits.

Virtually flawless Mint State 69

This coin was deemed to be in Mint State 69 condition by the experts at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). That grade means that the coin is flawless as seen by the naked eye but has at least one minuscule imperfection.
