Why add the Mint State 70 1983-P Silver Olympics Commemorative Dollar to your collection?

This 1983-P Silver Olympics Commemorative Dollar achieved the sought after collector grade of Mint State 70 from the industry leaders at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). This issue has a low mintage of 294,543.

After the classic commemorative half dollar series from 1892 until 1954, the US Mint took a break from the issuance of commemorative coins. Beginning in 1982, the modern commemorative era begins and this Silver Olympic issue has the distinction of being the second commemorative issued in the Modern series. It was also the first commemorative silver dollar made since 1900. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin contains .7736 oz. of 90% silver.

The obverse of the coin features the classic Olympic image of a discus thrower which was based on an image by Myron. The discus thrower is outlined three times to give the illusion of motion. The reverse of the coin features the quintessential image of America, the Bald Eagle, in 3/4 profile. The design of the coin is by Elizabeth Jones, the Eleventh Chief Engraver of the US Mint and the first and only woman, to date, to hold the post.

Mint State 70 coins are sought after by numismatists who seek the highest quality specimens for their collections because they are flawless under 8 times magnification. They exhibit superior eye appeal and original surfaces.
