Why order this 3-Piece 1979-1981 U.S. Proof Set Collection Set?
The U.S Mint began issuing the Susan B. Anthony Dollar in 1979 with high hopes that the coin would prove popular. Due in large part to its similarity in size to the quarter, it wasn't. Accordingly, the Mint struck it for circulation for just two years and only issued collector coins for 1981. That was the final year of issue save for one run in 1999. Now, you have the chance to own Proof Sets that included the coin from each of its original three years of mintage. Each set in this collection consists of six coins. All of these coins bear the "S" mint mark of the San Francisco Mint on the obverse.
Patriotic Apollo 11 Design
Five of the coins in this set featured in U.S circulation for years, with some remaining unchanged to this day. They include the Kennedy Half Dollar, the Washington Quarter, the Roosevelt Dime, the Jefferson Nickel, and the Lincoln Cent, each of which features a portrait of the president for whom it is named on the obverse. The reverses of these coins all all unique. Most notable among them are the Presidential Seal on the half dollar and Monticello, Jefferson's famous home, on the nickel.
The coin that sets these sets apart from those in other years is the Susan B. Anthony Dollar. Anthony is depicted facing right with her shoulders open to the holder on the obverse. The reverse was taken from the Eisenhower Dollar. It consists of an eagle landing on the moon with the earth visible in the distance.

The U.S mint began releasing annual proof sets in 1936 that included one proof of each coin that was struck for circulation that year. The practice continues to this day with many collectors considering the annual proof set a ‘must get’ every year.
