Distinctive Eisenhower Dollar Design

Obverse: The obverse is adorned with a left facing portrait of Eisenhower, accompanied by the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "1973" and the "S" Mint mark.

Reverse: Featured on the reverse is an image adapted from the mission insignia for the Apollo 11 space flight, depicting a bald eagle grasping an olive branch while preparing to land on the lunar surface, with the Earth in the background. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "ONE DOLLAR." The coin's imagery is the work of the U.S. Mint's 10th Chief Engraver, Frank Gasparro, whose additional credits include the designs for the Susan B. Anthony Dollar, the reverse of the Kennedy half dollar and the Lincoln Memorial reverse of the Lincoln cent.
