Why purchase this Silver Clad Eisenhower Dollar Set?
The U.S. Mint introduced the Eisenhower Dollar series in 1971, honoring the 34th U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower. This beautiful 50th Anniversary set features the first five releases of the series, representing the only years the coin was issued with a silver composition. The set includes coins dated 1971-1974, along with the highly sought after single year of issue bicentennial release.
Eisenhower Dollar Imagery
Obverse: A portrait of Eisenhower is centered on the obverse, surrounded by the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "S" and the issue date.
1971-1974 Reverse: The reverse image is adapted from the mission patch worn by the astronauts aboard NASA's Apollo 11 space flight, depicting a bald eagle grasping an olive branch preparing to land on the moon's surface, with the Earth in the background. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "ONE DOLLAR." Obverse and reverse designs were created by Frank Gasparro, the U.S. Mint's 10th Chief Engraver. 1776-1976 Reverse: The design for the special release dedicated to the nation's bicentennial was determined by a competition held by the Mint. The award winning entry by sculpture student Dennis R. Williams features the Liberty Bell paired with a rendition of the moon.
