Why add this Silver 1969-S Proof Kennedy Half Dollar with a signed Charlie Duke label to your collection?
Collectors who are nostalgic for Camelot are sure to love this 1969-S Proof Silver Kennedy half dollar. The coin comes from just the third mintage of Kennedy half dollar proofs. This coin was part of a mintage of 2,934,631 pieces, each of which was struck from 11.5 g of .400 fine silver at the San Francisco Mint. That mint's "S" mint mark is near the bottom of the obverse design. Significantly, this coin was struck the year that man first stepped foot on the Moon, as part of the Apollo 11 space mission.
Powerful President John F. Kennedy Design by Gilroy Roberts
The obverse features Gilroy Roberts's portrait of President John F. Kennedy. The left-side profile depicts the young leader with his hair neatly combed and a somber yet confident look on his face. The word "LIBERTY" arches over him along the rim, and his portrait split the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." The date, "1969," is included at the bottom.
On the reverse is an adaptation of the Presidential Seal by Frank Gasparro. An eagle guards a union shield as it clutches arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. Thirteen stars arch over his head. The eagle and the stars are encircled by fifty stars, which represent the current states, and two rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR."
Beautiful GEM Proof with Charlie Duke Signed label
Numismataic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified that this coin is in GEM Proof condition, a highly desirable grade for this mintage. This certification has been provided on a label that was signed by the tenth man to walk on the moon, Charlie Duke.
