Why order this 1969-2019 5 oz Silver Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Robbins Medalwith Space Flown Alloy?
Fans of the US space program and patriotic Americans of all stripes are sure to love this antiqued medal, which marks the fiftieth anniversary of the mission that landed man on the moon for the first time. Sunshine Minting struck the medal from five ounces of .999 fine silver. The mint also purified alloy that was flown into space on an Apollo mission and incorporated it into the solution that they used to antique this medal, which they did by hand.
Powerful Apollo 11 Patch Design
The Apollo 11 patch features on the obverse. An eagle is depicted landing on the moon with the Earth far off in the distance. The eagle was especially significant as a national symbol of pride, given that the feat was achieved in the midst of the Cold War. Florida, home of the Kennedy Space Center, is at the center of the visible portion of Earth. "APOLLO 11" is inscribed at the top.
The reverse bears important information details about the mission, including key dates and the men who flew on it. "ARMSTRONG - COLLINS - ALDRIN" is inscribed along the rim, while "50TH ANNIVERSARY" is inscribed just inside those names. At the center are the mission's key dates, "LAUNCHED JULY 16, 1969," "LANDED JULY 20, 1969," and "RETURNED JULY 24, 1969." The anniversary dates, "1969-2019," are noted at the bottom.
