Why Buy This MS70 2019 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Silver Plated Medal?
While there have been many monumental occasions in United States history, the Apollo 11 mission in 1969 is certainly a favorite of many. To mark the 50th anniversary of this occasion, the medal shown here was struck. It's made of cupronickel and has been plated with silver. This medal was struck by Sunshine Minting, one of the most reputable private mints in the United States.
50th Anniversary Apollo 11 Designs
The designs seen on this medal were inspired by the original medals that were struck in 1969 for the mission. The obverse closely resembles the Apollo 11 mission patch. A bald eagle can be seen just above the moon's surface. This design was also employed on both the Eisenhower (1971-1974, 1977-1978) and Susan B. Anthony (1979-1981, 1999) dollars.
Many inscriptions can be found on the reverse. Unlike the original, this design also includes the 50th anniversary dates. The dates of the launch, the lunar landing, and the return are all inscribed here.
To have this medal graded and encapsulated, it was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. From their 70 point grading scale it was awarded the grade of Mint State 70. That indicates this specimen is in perfect condition.
