Why purchase this collection of U.S. Mint Blue Box Proof Sets issued from 1968-1972?
1968 marked a year of change for the U.S. Mint's proof sets. In the three years prior, from 1965-1967, the Mint did not issue a proof set. The re-introduction of the set in 1968 featured a change in packaging from soft plastic sleeves enclosed in flat envelopes to rigid plastic holders, in a style similar to that which is still in use today. The sets released in the five years of 1968-1972 were presented in distinctive blue boxes labeled with the year and "United States Proof Set." Annual production of proof sets also transferred from Philadelphia to San Francisco beginning in 1968.
Coins of the 1968-1972 Proof Sets
Each set in this collection includes five proof coins bearing the "S" Mint mark: a Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter and a Kennedy Half Dollar. Half Dollars dated 1968, 1969 and 1970 are struck from a composition of 40% silver, with the 1970-S recognized as the final 40% silver coin included in an annual proof set until 1976.
Gorgeous GEM Proof Coins in Original U.S. Mint Packaging
Each proof set is individually presented as packaged by the Mint, in a rigid plastic holder and dated blue outer box. The coins are ungraded, considered to be in GEM Proof condition, featuring an exceptional strike with stunning frosted design elements and mirrored backgrounds.

The U.S mint began releasing annual proof sets in 1936 that included one proof of each coin that was struck for circulation that year. The practice continues to this day with many collectors considering the annual proof set a ‘must get’ every year.
