1965 US Mint SMS
For several years the United States Mint did not produce uncirculated or proof sets. What they released instead was called the Special Mint Set. This is often abbreviated as SMS.
The coins in the 1965 US Mint SMS are a bit of a cross between business strike and proof strike coins. Although the dies were not polished, these coins were struck on presses with more power than those used for business strikes and this exceptional strike quality gives the SMS coins a unique look.
1965 GEM BU Special Mint Set in Original Government Packaging
The 1965 Special Mint set will arrive in its original government packaging. Since these sets were not purchased directly from the US Mint by MCM, imperfections may be present. However, every effort has been made to preserve these sets as much as possible.
Each 1965 SMS contains a Kennedy half dollar, a Washington quarter, a Roosevelt dime, a Jefferson nickel, a Lincoln cent, and a plastic token. These sets may have been around for quite a while now, but the coins still look great with their unique appearance.

PLEASE NOTE: This U.S. Mint product was not purchased by us directly from the Mint but from collectors like you and other dealers. We make every effort to make sure the packaging is acceptable and that the coins are problem free. You may, however, receive coins that have toning or haze. This occurs naturally over time and is common to see. There may be some imperfections in packaging due to the sets leaving one collection to go into another. Please keep this in mind when examining your sets.
