Why add the 1961-D Silver Franklin Half Dollar NGC MS65 FBL to your collection?

The experts at Numsimatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this 1961-D Silver Franklin Half Dollar at the solidly collectible Mint State (MS) 65 level. It was also qualified for the desirable Full Bell Lines (FBL) designation, which underscores the strength and quality of the strike. This coin was struck at the US Mint in Denver on 90% silver rounds containing .3617 oz. actual silver weight.

Classic John R. Sinnock Design

The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Benjamin Franklin which was based on the bust crafted by French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdin during Mr. Franklin's lifetime. The reverse of the coin features a Liberty Bell image which is similar to the Sinnock designed 1926 Sesquicentennial reverse. As an afterthought, the U.S. Mint added a diminutive eagle to comply with the law requiring that all U.S. coinage with face values above the dime feature an eagle on the reverse. The FBL designation refers to the horizontal lines that can be seen on the surface of the bell.

Mint State 65 Full Bell Lines

Mint State 65 coins have full Mint luster and excellent design details. They are well struck and will have small but noticeable distractions. The FBL designation is reserved for examples with exceptionally strong strikes and is sought after by collectors of the series.
