Why Add This PF65 1951 Proof Franklin Half Dollar to Your Collection?
The Franklin half dollar was first struck by the U.S. Mint in 1948. Franklin half dollars replaced the Walking Liberty half dollar, which was quite popular during its time in circulation. While the Franklin half dollar was popular in its own right, the design was ultimately replaced early to allow the introduction of the Kennedy half dollar. Like other U.S. circulating silver coins of the pre-1965 era, this one is struck from 90% silver.
- This Franklin half is Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) certified.
- It has a proof finish and is 90% silver.
- There were only 57,500 of these struck.
Classic Franklin and Liberty Bell Designs
Obverse: The date is located on this side of the coin, along with "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." Benjamin Franklin is depicted at the center of the design; this is the work of John R. Sinnock. While he never served as President of the United States, history clearly shows the impact that Benjamin Franklin had during the birth of our nation.
Reverse: This side of the coin features the work of Sinnock as well. The Liberty Bell is pictured here, with its characteristic crack very visible. The Liberty Bell shows a high level of detail and there is a small bald eagle next to it. The face value is inscribed at the bottom of the design.
