Why Purchase This 1950s Lone Star Flat Top Beer Can?

When we think about beer, most of us don't give much thought to the packaging. Aside from personal preference, what is there to think about other than choosing between cans, bottles, or draft? Today, some don't realize that at one point it was actually new and unusual to have beer in a can. This actually didn't happen for the first time until 1935 and the cans were not like the slick pop-tab cans that are standard today. It took a bit of work to open old beer cans and the breweries typically included instructions on the side of the can for this purpose.

The history of Lone Star beer goes back to the late 1800s. Still on the market today, it's regarded as the "national beer of Texas." The original brewery was quite advanced for its time, which should come as no surprise seeing as Adolphus Busch of Anheuser-Busch played a major role in the early years. Like most other old brands, ownership of Lone Star beer has changed many times. Today, the brand is owned by Pabst and production has been contracted to Miller at their Fort Worth brewing facility.

This Lone Star beer can dates to the 1950s. It features an original flat top design, which came before the invention of the pop-tab. The can offered here was actually opened with a can opener. This vintage advertising piece measures 6" and is made of metal. Although it has been opened, it's still in excellent condition. The simple fact that most cans are immediately thrown away makes this piece something you don't find everyday! A certificate of authenticity is included.
