Why add this gorgeous 1946-S Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin to your collection of precious metals?
The U.S. Mint produced the Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar series from 1916 until 1947, during a period of American history that encompassed First World War, the Great Depression and World War II. The series' powerful, patriotic imagery, which was revived for the current American Silver Eagle dollar series, is the work of acclaimed architectural and medallic sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.
The Beauty and Elegance of the Walking Liberty Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse, her walking figure draped with an American flag, as she confidently strides towards the rising sun while cradling an impressive bouquet of laurel and oak branches in her left arm. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "1946."
Reverse: The reverse depicts an eagle facing left with its wings raised, standing defensively at the edge of a cliff near a branch of mountain pine. San Francisco's "S" Mint mark appears beneath the branch. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "HALF DOLLAR."
