Obverse: Both faces of this coin were designed by Victor D. Brenner. The obverse bears a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed at the top of the rim, while the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "1945" flank the portrait.
Reverse: On the reverse, the face value of the coin, "ONE CENT," and the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," are inscribed prominently in the center. They are flanked by two ears of wheat. The second statutory motto, "E PLURIBUS UNUM," is inscribed above. Victor David Brenner is best known for designing this coin. He was a sculptor, engraver, and medalist who immigrated to the United States from Lithuania.
