Why purchase this superbly graded 1944 Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin?
The Walking Liberty Half Dollar series was issued by the U.S. Mint from 1916 until 1947. The series features designs by award-winning early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, which exemplify the national themes of freedom and liberty. The coin's message is just as powerful today, more than one hundred years later, as the obverse of the Mint's current American Silver Eagle series.
Iconic Walking Liberty Design
Obverse: The obverse features Lady Liberty enveloped in the flag of the United States, as she gracefully walks towards the rising sun, while carrying a magnificent bouquet of laurel and oak branches. Oak and laurel are traditional symbols of strength and victory which, are rooted in the civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "1944."
Reverse: The reverse depicts a stunningly rendered eagle with its wings raised, perched on a large boulder beside a twisted branch of mountain pine. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "HALF DOLLAR."
