The Walking Liberty Half Dollar series was produced by the U.S. Mint from 1916 until 1947, featuring a patriotic design by prolific early 20th century medallic and architectural sculptural artist Adolph A. Weinman.
Enduring Symbols of Liberty and Freedom
Obverse: The obverse is graced with the image of Lady Liberty enveloped in an American flag walking towards the sunrise, with one arm reaching forward and the other cradling a cluster of oak and laurel branches. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "1943."
Reverse: The reverse illustrates a left facing eagle with its wings raised defensively, perched on an outcropping of rock beside a growth of mountain pine. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "HALF DOLLAR."
