Featuring a Pair of Classic Designs by Adolph Weinman
Obverse: An American flag draped Liberty strides confidently in the morning sun carrying laurel and oak branches. Her name, "LIBERTY," spreads throughout the top half of the rim. The coin's date, "1943," and America's national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," are also included on this face.
Reverse: On the reverse, an eagle spreads its wings while perched on a mountain crag. From a crack in the rock, a mountain pine sapling, which represents America, has begun to emerge. Inscriptions on this face include a statutory motto, "E PLURIBUS UNUM," the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the coin's face value, "HALF DOLLAR.' Adolph Weinman is best known for designing the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime, two of the best known coins of the 20th century. In addition to these and other numismatic efforts, he was also a sculptor, and many of his pieces can still be seen in cities across the United States.
