Featuring Adolph Weinman's Beloved Walking Liberty Design
Obverse: The obverse bears the design for which the coin is named, the Walking Liberty by Adolph Weinman. Draped in the American flag and wearing a Phrygian cap, Liberty carries branches of laurel and oak as the morning sun begins to rise. Her name, "LIBERTY," is inscribed along the rim, while inscriptions elsewhere on this face read, "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "1943." Adolph Weinman was one of the most important contributors to America's early 20th century numismatic renaissance. His best known contributions are the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.
Reverse: An eagle stands perched on a mountain crag in Weinman's reverse design. Extending from a break in the rock is a mountain pine sapling, which represents the United States. The statutory motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is inscribed to the left. Along the rim above and below the bird, respectively, are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR."
