Why Choose This 1943 Coca-Cola WWII Vought-Sikorsky F4U "Corsair" Sign?

The history of Coca-Cola and the Coca-Cola Company is quite fascinating. Seeing the corporate giant and worldwide brand that the company is today, it's hard to imagine that it came from such small beginnings but that's just what happened. The Coca-Cola Company as we know it was founded by Asa Candler in 1892. While Candler was the one who made Coca-Cola a household name, he did not create the formula. The formula was actually created by John Pemberton in the mid-1880s.

Ownership of the Coca-Cola name and formula got a little complicated rather quickly, as several investors soon had rights to the formula while Pemberton and his son had rights to the formula and the name. However, Candler knew that he would need all the rights to Coca-Cola if he was going to make the most of his investment and spent years trying to acquire them. The biggest hang up in this process seemed to be acquiring the rights to the name. They had been given to Pemberton's son and he refused to part with them in life. After his passing Candler purchased the rights to the name as the final piece in his puzzle and formed the Coca-Cola Company.

The piece shown here is a sign from a promotional series released in 1943. While this specimen may have minor handling issues, it is considered in excellent condition, which is not often seen, especially since many such signs were disposed of after use. This piece is made of cardstock and features the Vought-Sikorsky F4U "Corsair" design. This historic sign measures 15" by 13" and weighs approximately 8 ounces.
