Why Purchase This 1943 Coca-Cola WWII Vought-Sikorsky OS2U "Kingfisher" Sign?

Today, Coca-Cola is one of the most popular beverages in the world and the Coca-Cola Company is an enormous corporation with many billions of dollars in revenue each year. It can be hard to believe that a giant like this had quite a humble origin. The Coca-Cola Company was formed in 1892 by Asa Candler, but that's not where the story of Coca-Cola begins. The events that led to the creation of Coca-Cola began in the mid-1880s. The immediate predecessor to Coca-Cola was alcoholic, which was only on the market for a short time before local prohibition created the need for a non-alcoholic reformulation. This is when it was reintroduced with a new formula as a stimulating tonic.

Asa Candler wanted to make something big out of Coca-Cola for years before he was able to. While he created the Coca-Cola company in 1892 and he secured some rights to the formula a few years prior, it was the creator of the formula, John Pemberton, who split the rights soon after it came to market. This caused Candler to pursue all of the rights to Coca-Cola for years before he was able to incorporate. Prior to Candler's acquisition of all rights to Coca-Cola, several businessman were using the same formula and even the rights to the name had been split off.

The 15" by 13" sign offered here is part of a promotional series that was released in 1943. This specimen is in excellent condition, which is quite the find as most of these were used and thrown away. Some minor handling issues may be apparent, but this piece was even found in its original envelope in between rice paper. This particular sign features the Vought-Sikorsky OS2U "Kingfisher" design and would made a gorgeous decorative hanging.
