Why Add This 1943 Coca-Cola WWII Grumman F6F "Hellcat" Sign to Your Collection?

When we see the Coca-Cola Company today with its billions of dollars in annual revenue and a product that's enjoyed 1.7 billion times per day on average, it can be hard to picture its humble origins as the idea of a small local business owner in the late 1800s. This is just one of the things that makes Coca-Cola and the history of the company so fascinating to so many people. Things could have very easily turned out differently were it not for some key players in the early years of the Coca-Cola story.

The story begins in 1886 by most accounts. This is the first time that Coca-Cola is offered, at that time it was marketed as a healthy stimulating tonic. The formula was created by John Pemberton, who was also the first to sell it. With his new idea, he named a new company after the drink, Coca-Cola. However, Pemberton also split and sold some of the rights in the first few years. Asa Candler wanted all of the rights for himself and after several years of pursuing them, finally acquired all of them. At this point, which was 1892, Candler formed the Coca-Cola Company that has grown to become the giant corporation that we know today.

The cardstock sign offered here measures 15" by 13". This blast from the past was released in 1943 as part of a promotional series, this one has the Grumman F6F "Hellcat" design. The series included a variety of WWII aircraft designs. These signs were widely used in local businesses and restaurants at that time, so many were used and discarded. This specimen has not only survived, but in excellent, new old stock, condition. This piece was found in its original envelope with riced paper between each sign. Some very minor handling issues may be apparent.
