Why add this 1942-S Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollar to your collection of precious metals?

The Walking Liberty Half Dollar series was a product of the U.S. Mint from 1916 until 1947. After surviving two World Wars and the Great Depression, the series was replaced in 1948 with a design honoring Benjamin Franklin. Imagery for the Walking Liberty series is an excellent example of the artistic skill of early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.

  • This 1942 Walking Liberty Half Dollar was struck at the San Francisco Mint.
  • The 30.60 mm diameter coin contains 0.3617 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver.
  • The coin is part of a 12,708,000 piece mintage.

Beautifully Symbolic Design

Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse, patriotically draped in an American flag as she strides towards the rising sun. In her arm she holds a bundle of oak and laurel branches, which are traditional emblems of strength, honor and victory. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "1942."

Reverse: The reverse design represents freedom, in the form of an eagle with its wings partially raised, as if preparing for flight. The eagle stands on a rock beside a seedling of mountain pine, with San Francisco's "S" Mint mark located below the branches. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "HALF DOLLAR."
