Patriotic Walking Liberty Design by Adolph Weinman
Obverse: Adolph Weinman's obverse design is among the most stunning in American numismatic history. Liberty strides confidently carrying branches in her left hand as the morning sun begins to rise. Arching over her is an inscription of her name, "LIBERTY," while the date, "1942," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," are inscribed elsewhere on this face.
Reverse: Weinman's reverse design depicts an eagle perched on a mountain crag. From a crack in the rock extends a mountain pine sapling, a symbol of the United States. Inscriptions on this face include a statutory motto, "E PLURIBUS UNUM," the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the coin's face value, "HALF DOLLAR." Adolph Weinman is best known for designing this coin and the Mercury Dime. He also designed medals and sculpted works that can still be seen in a number of American cities.
