Striking Eagle Design by Adolph Weinman
Obverse: Both faces of this coin bear designs that were created by Adolph Weinman. On the obverse, the morning sun begins to emerge from beyond the horizon as Liberty carries laurel and oak branches while draped in the American flag. Inscriptions on this face include her name, "LIBERTY," the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the date, "1941." Adolph Weinman was a prominent sculptor, and his work continues to be displayed in a number of cities across America. Among his best known numismatic contributions were the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.
Reverse: Perched on a mountain crag, an eagle spreads its wings on the reverse. A mountain pine sapling emerges from the crag. Inscriptions along the rim read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR." "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is also included on the left.
