While the modern commemorative program is running today, the U.S. Mint's early commemorative program ran from the 1890s to the 1950s. This Arkansas Centennial half dollar was minted in 1936. It has the same silver content as other pre-1965 U.S. half dollars. There were 25,265 of these coins struck.

Arkansas Centennial Design

The obverse of this half dollar is inscribed with "ARKANSAS CENTENNIAL 1836-1936." This side depicts Joseph T. Robinson, who was a prominent Arkansas politician.

The face value and date are displayed on the reverse. The design here shows a bald eagle with its wings out in front of the Arkansas state flag. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" can be seen at the top of the design.

MS66 from PCGS

To have this commemorative half dollar graded and encapsulated, it was submitted to the Professional Coin Grading Service. This specimen is in uncirculated condition, it was awarded the grade of Mint State 66. Some very minor flaws are visible. Now it's protected by a permanently sealed slab that will preserve it for years to come.
