Youthful Liberty Design

Artist Anthony de Francisci based the Liberty depiction on this coin on his wife Teresa Cafarelli. This depiction of Liberty was new and young and reflected the optimism of the 1920s. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of Liberty. She is shown wearing a tiara of rays with hair flowing loosely behind. The reverse features a bald eagle perched on a rocky outcrop. The eagle holds an olive branch while the image is bathed in rays of sunlight.
