Why add this 1928 $2.5 Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle coin to your collection?

Introduction of the Indian Head Quarter Eagle in 1908 marked a first for the U.S. Mint. Together with the Half Eagle of the same design, the series was produced in a rimless style with an incused strike, meaning that the design was pressed into the coin, rather than raised. Not well liked by the public for fear of germs collecting within the incuse design, the series was discontinued after the 1929 release. 1929 would also famously officially mark the start of the Great Depression which persisted until 1933. The Indian Head was the final Quarter Eagle, $2.50 denomination gold coin series to be issued by the U.S. Mint. This 1928 Indian Head Quarter Eagle was struck from 0.1210 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold at the Philadelphia Mint, its final mintage reported to be 416,000.

Bold Indian Head Design by Boston sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt

The obverse features a Native American chief in a magnificently detailed feathered headdress, surrounded by the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "1928" and thirteen five-pointed stars.

An eagle is depicted on the reverse, perched upon a cluster of arrows and an olive branch. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "2 1/2 DOLLARS," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST."

Stunning Mint State 63

This 1928 Gold Indian Head Quarter Eagle $2.5 coin received the impressive grade of Mint State 63 from Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). The coin is encapsulated in a protective holder accompanied by a NGC certification label.
