Why Make This PMG 70 1928 $500 24KT Commemorative Gold Certificate the Next Addition to Your Collection?
Prior to 1933, both gold coins and gold certificates were circulating in the United States. Unlike other types of U.S. paper currency, gold certificates could be taken to a bank and exchanged directly for gold coins of equal value. The last series of gold certificates was from 1928, and these were the only small size gold certificates. The 24 karat gold commemorative here is modeled after the 1928 $500 gold certificate.
McKinley Gold Certificate Design
Like other denominations of gold certificates, the seal is on the left portion of the design. The face of this commemorative note features a portrait of William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States. The face value is displayed in multiple locations, including the corners of the design.
Unlike smaller gold certificate denominations, the reverse of the $500 note has a rather simple design. The face value is shown in numerous locations and is also the focal point of the design.
70 from PMG
This 24 karat gold commemorative note was submitted to Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) for certification. No imperfections were found by their team of professionals, so it received a perfect 70 grade.
