Why purchase this Commemorative 1928 $50 24KT Gold Certificate?
The 1928 Gold Certificate Series stopped short thanks to the 1933 Gold Reserve Act. It was the only series to have small-sized gold certificates. Today, these certificates can be difficult to find and rather expensive. Now, though, you have the chance to own a replica of one of the certificates. Struck at a private mint from .1 g of .999 fine gold, this commemorative is only distinguishable from the original in a few minor ways that identify it as a replica.
Stunning Portrait of President Ulysses S. Grant
The 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant, features at the center of the obverse. Grant, a graduate of West Point, is best known for leading the Union army during the Civil War. He played a central role in the Reconstruction era. An inscription of the note's face value, "FIFTY," is set to the right, while the certificate's face value is noted in numeral form, "50," in each corner.
One of Washington, DC's most important structures, the Capitol Building, dominates the reverse. Above the landmark is the inscription "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA." As on the obverse, "50" is inscribed in each corner.
Stunning GEM
The experts at Paper Money Grading (PMG) certified that this commemorative is in GEM condition. That means that it has above average centering and has no more than one or two indications of minor handling.
