Iconic Incuse Designs by Bela Lyon Pratt

Obverse: Both faces of the coin were designed by Bela Lyon Pratt. A Native American man faces left wearing a feathered headdress on the obverse. Encircling the image are thirteen stars and two inscriptions. Those inscriptions read, "LIBERTY" and "1926."

Reverse: An eagle faces left while perched proudly on arrows that are wrapped in an olive branch on the reverse. "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," the two statutory mottoes, are inscribed to the left and right of the bird, respectively. Rim inscriptions note the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and face value, "2 1/2 DOLLARS." Bela Lyon Pratt was born in Connecticut and graduated from Yale's School of Fine Arts. His best known works are the Indian Head Quarter Eagle and Half Eagle.
