Why add this Gold 1926 Indian Head Quarter Eagle coin to your collection?

The U.S. Mint's Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle series introduced in 1908 featured two firsts for the Mint, a rimless design and an incuse strike. The series was short-lived, produced for only thirteen years in total, partly due to the coin's unpopularity. Many believed that the coin's incuse designs would enable the easy transfer of germs and disease. Design of the series is credited to Bela Lyon Pratt, a Boston sculptor who had worked as an assistant in the private studio of Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1907 Double Eagle designer).

  • This 1926 Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle is a product of the Philadelphia Mint.
  • The coin is struck from 0.1210 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold with a diameter measurement of 18 mm.
  • Mintage is reported to be only 446,000.

Exceptionally Detailed Imagery

Reverse: An eagle is illustrated on the reverse perched upon a bundle of arrows wrapped with an olive branch, icons representing strength and peace. Inscribed "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2 1/2 DOLLARS."
