Why add this 1925 Thick Silver Norse American Medal your collection of precious metals?
To honor the 100th Anniversary of the arrival of forty-five Norwegian immigrants aboard the "Restauration," the U.S. Congress authorized the production of a series of commemorative medals in 1925. The non-denominational medals were struck by the U.S. Mint in four varieties: gold, bronze, thick silver and thin silver. Imagery of the medal series, inspired by Norse heritage, was crafted by the designer of the 1913 Buffalo Nickel, acclaimed sculptor James Earle Fraser.
- This Norse American Medal is the thick silver version, containing 0.5663 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver.
- The 30 mm diameter octagonal shaped medal was struck in 1925 at the Philadelphia Mint.
- Mintage is reported to be only 33,750 medals.
