The federal Commission of Fine Arts held a competition to determine the coin's design. Out of nine entries from well-respected sculptors, the submission of Italian artist Anthony de Francisci was chosen to grace the Peace Dollar.

Breathtaking Peace Dollar Design

Obverse: Lady Liberty is rendered as a beautiful young woman facing left on the obverse, wearing a stunning radiate style crown. Her hair is partially bound, with a few tresses casually tossed in a breeze away from her face. The portrait is accompanied by the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "1925."

Reverse: The reverse features an eagle standing in an alert pose upon a mountain summit adorned with the word "PEACE." The national bird is clutching an olive branch, as it looks towards a new day's sun. Additional inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" the Mint mark "S" and "ONE DOLLAR."
