Beautiful Beaux Arts design
The obverse of the coin features the Goddess Liberty standing on a rocky outcrop. Overhead her fist tightly clenches the Torch of Enlightenment and the timeless olive branch of Peace. The U.S. Capitol building appears at her side and she is back lit by the rising sun. The reverse of the coin features a spectacular flying bald eagle also back lit by the dawning sun. The coin was designed by famed artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
