Why add this 1924-P Silver Peace Dollar to your collection?
After the conclusion of the First World War, the federal Commission of Fine Arts held a competition in search of a design for a silver dollar to commemorate the restoration of peace. The winning submission, symbolizing liberty, hope and peace, was created by renowned Italian-American sculptor Anthony de Francisci. The inaugural release of the U.S. Mint's Silver Peace Dollar series occurred in 1921.
Gorgeously Rendered Peace Dollar Design
Obverse: Lady Liberty is featured on the obverse adorned with a radiate tiara, similar to the type that is featured on the Statue of Liberty. "LIBERTY" is inscribed above, woven between the spokes of Liberty's tiara, with "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date of issue "1924" below.
Reverse: The reverse illustrates a bald eagle with an olive branch in its grip, standing proudly on a large stone engraved with the word "PEACE," as stylized rays of sunlight glow in the background. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" curve above, with the coin's "ONE DOLLAR" denomination flanking the national bird.
