Why add this 1922 Silver Peace Dollar to your collection?
The U.S. Mint began to issue the Silver Peace Dollar in 1921. The design of the coin, determined by a contest won by Italian-American sculptor Anthony de Francisci, is meant to symbolize the restoration of peace following the devastation of the First World War. This 1922 dated example of the Peace Dollar series is a product of the Philadelphia Mint. The coin measures 38.1 mm in diameter, struck from 0.7734 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver. Final mintage is reported to be 51,737,000.
