Why add the 1922 Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle PCGS MS62 to your collection?
The Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle was struck between 1907 and 1933. The series is regarded at the most beautiful American gold coin ever struck. The coins were the largest gold denomination in the U.S. when they circulated. Many issues in the series were melted in the 1930s.
A Beaux Arts Masterpiece
Obverse: The obverse image used on the coin depicts the Goddess Liberty herself holding the Torch of Enlightenment overhead while she holds the olive branch of Peace in her left hand.
Reverse: The reverse features a majestic flying bald eagle with the sun rising in the background. The timeless motto "In God We Trust" appears below the eagle. This remarkably beautiful coin was designed by famous American artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens, father of the American Arts Renaissance. He was commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt to redesign American Coinage in 1906. The $20 "Double Eagle" was the first design he completed.
