This 1922 Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle was graded Mint State 64 by the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). It was struck at the nation's coinage workhorse, the Philadelphia branch of the U.S. Mint. It features a mintage of 1,375,500 coins. The series was struck on 90% pure gold planchets which contain .9675 oz. actual gold weight (AGW). The series is regarded at the most beautiful American gold coin ever struck.

A Beaux Arts Masterpiece

The obverse image used on the coin depicts the Goddess Columbia, Liberty herself holding the Torch of Enlightenment overhead while she holds the olive branch of Peace in her left hand. The reverse features a majestic flying bald eagle with the sun rising in the background. This remarkably beautiful coin was designed by famous American artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens.
