Why add this series of 1922 $50 Gold Certificate with a Small S/N Mule to your collection?

The Paper Money Guaranty (PMG) graded this 1922 $50 Gold Certificate - Small S/N Mule Fr#1200am at the Very Fine 25 level. Gold Certificates were illegal for U.S. collectors to own after the 1933 Roosevelt gold confiscation until the sixties. This is a large format banknote and a collectible mule note. These notes have a back plate number that is a different size from the front plate number.

Ulysses S. Grant obverse

"This Certifies that there have been deposited in the Treasury of United States of America Fifty Dollars in Gold Coin Payable to the Bearer on Demand" appears on the obverse of this note just below President Grant. The serial numbers, seal and the number 50 are printed in yellow on either side of the portrait. The reverse has an elaborate edge engraving and a central engraving featuring the denomination. Overall, gold certificates like this that were printed in the large "horse blanket" formats with stunning yellow ink contrasting with fine, black ink designs tend to be fantastically attractive.

Very Fine 25 graded note

Very Fine 25 graded examples have solid paper, show moderate evidence of circulation and have a bit of folding and soiling. There will be minor defects or distractions but nothing serious. Notes in this grade will still have exceptional eye appeal.
