Why should this 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar be a part of your collection of historic American coinage?
The Morgan Silver Dollar was an annual release of the U.S. Mint from 1878 until 1904. The series was unexpectedly revived in 1921 for a final year of release prior to its permanent replacement by the Peace Dollar. The entirety of the Morgan Dollar's design features the artistry of George T. Morgan, an assistant engraver at the time, who would become the Mint's seventh Chief Engraver nearly forty years later, in 1917.
Magnificent Rendition of Lady Liberty
Obverse: The obverse features Liberty personified as a young woman wearing a Phrygian cap ornamented with a garland of wheat, cotton and oak. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1921."
Reverse: An eagle with outstretched wings is portrayed on the reverse, clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch. Surrounding inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "ONE DOLLAR."
