Why Add This MS64 1916 Portugal 50 Centavos to Your Collection Today?

While clad coinage is what we use today, for many countries it was once standard to have circulating silver and gold coins. This Portugal 50 centavos silver coin was struck in 1916. It is made of .835 fine silver and has an actual silver weight of .335 Troy oz. This composition is similar to the 90% silver coins that the US Mint once issued for circulation. On the front, a depiction of Liberty is shown facing the left. The date can be found below Liberty. On the reverse, a wreath encircles a shield. The face value is inscribed on this side. Originally, there were 5,080,000 of these minted.

This 1916 Portugal silver 50 centavos was submitted to NGC for grading. Before assigning it a grade from their 70 point scale, the experts there examined this coin very carefully. It is in uncirculated condition and still shows all of its original details. It was assigned the grade of MS64, which is very good for a classic silver coin.
