Why add this 1913 Gold Indian Head Half Eagle coin to your collection?
The U.S. Mint introduced the Indian Head Gold Half Eagle series in 1908. Designed by Boston sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt, the coin was rimless, featuring imagery created by an unusual incuse strike. Released for a total of just ten years, only twenty-four date/Mint mark combinations were produced. This 1913 Indian Head Half Eagle coin contains 0.2419 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold. Final mintage of the Philadelphia struck coin is reported to be 915,901.
Beautiful Indian Head Design
An Indian chief is depicted on the obverse wearing an incredibly detailed feathered headdress. The portrait is surrounded by thirteen stars, with the inscription "LIBERTY" curving above and the year of issue "1913" below.
An eagle is illustrated on the reverse, standing proudly upon a bundle of arrows which are entwined with an olive branch. The magnificent bird is accompanied by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "FIVE DOLLARS." Traditionally, Philadelphia minted, circulating coinage does not carry a Mint mark.
