Why make this 1912-S Indian Head Half Eagle $5 gold coin the next addition to your collection?

The U.S. Mint introduced a groundbreaking coin type for its Half Eagle denomination gold coinage in 1908. The coin's innovative style features a rimless design and an incuse strike. The coin's imagery, which was identical to that of the Quarter Eagle introduced at the same time, honors the Native American heritage of the country. The Indian Head Half Eagle series was minted for only ten years, from 1908-1916, and one final year in 1929.

  • This Indian Head Gold Half Eagle coin was struck at the San Francisco branch of the U.S. Mint in 1912.
  • The coin is crafted from 0.2419 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold.
  • The 21.60 mm diameter coin features a sensational incuse strike.
  • The coin is one of only 392,000 minted.

Gorgeous Half Eagle Design

Obverse: A Native American chief is portrayed facing left on the obverse, wearing a traditional feathered ceremonial headdress. The image is encircled by thirteen five-pointed stars, with the inscription "LIBERTY" curving overhead and "1912" below. Above the date, the initials "BLP" appear, which credit the exciting design to renowned early 20th century American sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt.

Reverse: An eagle stands perched upon a bundle of arrows on the reverse, while grasping an olive branch. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "FIVE DOLLARS." The San Francisco Mint's identifying "S" Mint mark is located between the points of the arrows and the olive branch.
