Why add this 1909-S Lincoln Wheat Cent to your collection?
The U.S. Mint introduced the Lincoln Cent series in 1909, as a tribute the 100th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The series marked the first time an actual person was represented on circulating American coinage.
Lincoln Wheat Cent Design by Victor David Brenner
Obverse: Abraham Lincoln's right facing image appears on the obverse. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" curves above, with "LIBERTY" and "1909" flanking the portrait. The San Francisco Mint's "S" Mint mark is positioned beneath the date.
Reverse: Two stylized grains of wheat are illustrated on the reverse, gracefully bending around the center inscriptions "ONE CENT" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA." The motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is inscribed above, Latin for "out of many, one." Victor David Brenner emigrated to the U.S. from Lithuania in 1890. As an acclaimed medallic artist, Mr. Brenner was instrumental in the founding of the New York Numismatic Club in 1908.
