Unique Indian Head Design by Bela Lyon Pratt

Both faces of this coin feature designs by Bela Lyon Pratt. On the obverse, a proud Native American man wears a headdress that is full of long feathers that extend back. "LIBERTY" is inscribed at the top and the date, "1909," is inscribed at the bottom. The inscriptions are separated by stars, six on the left and seven on the right, that represent the original states.

On the reverse, the national bird, the eagle, stands on a group of arrows. The arrows serve as symbols of military readiness, America's willingness and ability to defender her values, while an olive branch, a symbol of peace, wraps around them.
